Calendula Flowers or Marigold
Uses: infected wounds and boosts general health in ill and aged animals.
There has been a considerable amount of research on the anti-inflammatory and anti-viral activity of this marvel of nature. The healing effect of the Calendula ointment (refer to recipes) in infected wounds is well documented. Calendula tea or herb added directly to feed is very useful in aiding digestion and promote bile production. I used this herb a lot in my veterinary practice either as calendula tea soaked bandages or ointment for infectedwounds or a slurry of Slippery Elm powder and Calendula tea (refer to Recipes) for use as a poultice on open wounds. There are also reports of its anti-cancer effects and potential protective effect against chemically induced liver damage.
Contraindications: do not use in pregnant animals, effects unknown
