Vitex agnus castus
Uses: As part of treatment of Cushing’s syndrome and other endocrine disorders, hormonal imbalance (reduces unwanted behavioral changes due to oestrus in mares).
The herb is claimed to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and progesterone-like effects. Strongly recommend seeking veterinary advice if unsure of cause of behaviour change.
Contraindications and adverse effects: do not use in pregnant and lactating animals, effects unknown.
Adverse reactions reported in humans is headaches, abdominal pain and cramps and skin rash.
